As an incentive to get people onto our forum....and because I dont get down to the club very often.

THE CLUB FORUM RALLY 200 WILL ON SUNDAY 13 JANUARY 2008.

There will be 5 route cards issued on the five consequitive Sundays.  ALL BASED ON MAP 93.

Navigation maybe tricky it maybe not and each entrant will be required to complete the answers to some questions based on the route card given.  In the spirit of competition all entries should be on an individual basis and the answers completed by the individual.

Route card answers must be sent to me via a Private Message no later than the Friday prior to the next card being issued.  Results will be issued only after the the next Route Card has been posted.

There is no obligation to complete any of the route cards but those not completed will result in a negative score for that card.

Points will be allocated as follows:

1. Returning  route card answers = 10 points
2. Not returning route card answers= -100 points
3. Answering a route card question correctly = 20 points
4. Answering a route card bonus question correctly = 25 points
5. Late submission of route card answers = - 100 points

NO PROTESTS OR OTHERWISE WILL BE ACCEPTED THE CLERK OF THE COURSE DECISION IS FINAL.

Ok its a bit of fun but there could be a prize for the winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve

sounds fantastic, brilliant idea... but not sure how it works. will it all be self explanitary? or will there be some sort of guide to what we have to do?

Should be straightforward.

Basically Route Card one will give you a map reference of the start.  Then the route card will consist of some form of definition on the map to get you to the next time control (end of Route card one) via several PC's which may be the answers to the questions.

Eg:

MTC 1 start at Map Ref...... 93/ XXX XXX
and proceed to the end of section 1 at TC 2 via the following

TR, TL, SO, SOX, TL , TR then via >  LC  <<   .128

Route card one question a.   What is the map reference of the second CRO Junction.

etc etc

Abbreviations will be explained where required.

sounds good Steve,

I would need some sort of key to all the abbreviations. I'll have to buy the map as well wont I? Saying that my father may have it already as he's always out and about walking in the country.

What scale will it be?

map 93 is a 'landranger' map. they are 1:50 000 scale. not sure what area it is, all my maps I use for mountaineering etc, so they're  all 1:25 000 .

looking forward to it, but I think I will be baffled by it as I never done anything like this. I would guess it will have to be fairly complicated, otherwise everybody would finish the same.

I'm up for a go Steve - have asked John to post me a relatively up to date Map 93 (think he has a spare).

Anyway, how hard can navigating be ? Don't you just have to sit there and get marshals to sign your timecard  ?

Well to try and give you a taster! (including abbreviations! at least for this one and the first section anyway

Yes map 93 is a OS Landranger map. If you are clever you might get away with using extracts from the Ordnance survey GETAMAP facility but I would suggest its rather more easier and probably cheaper than all the ink you will use to buy the map.  It may also contravene copyright???

Anyway here we go....

HERE IS A PRACTICE ROUTE CARD.

Start at SH (SPOT HEIGHT)  66 in GS (GRID SQUARE) 47 32

Go via SH 82   67   42   102   126   128   then TR   TL   TR   SO   TR   TR   TR   TL   TR  FINISH at 139  in GS 39 35

The last bit is simply directions to turn ie turn right, turn left etc..... easy....

Q1 = How many spot heights do you drive over including start and finish?
Q2 = What grid square is the "PARKING" in that you pass?
Q3 = How many times do you actually "CROSS" the Dismantled railway?

REMEMBER - READ THE QUESTION and ANSWER PRECISELY.

Good luck answers by the end of the week......
