You are serious about doing it then!
Mike Smailes will give you the number for Ali Procter, he is a really good navi, if Wagg is unavailble of course. _________________

if you can do it in a standard car then yes, might as well make it a motorsport weekend with karting on sunday as well _________________

Standard car is fine for Weardale - even the white that we have used over last few years is good condition tarmac / concrete. We won the event a few years ago in Mrs. RRD's shopping car / kid's taxi (escort hatchback) - so no problems for a standard car !
Just make sure that you have a power source for navigator's poti (e.g. a plug that fits cigarette lighter socket). For scrutineering, check all your lights work, put some yellow tape onto battery earth lead, make sure battery is securely fastened and carry a red warning triangle (also empty the boot of any loose items / junk).
Hope to see you there (any one else coming to play ??) |

It is so the fire brigade/ marshals know which one to cut when the car is upside down in a ditch. _________________

if its upside down in a ditch, I think they've done very well just getting to the battery earth. _________________ 2007 STOCKTON & DISTRICT MOTOR CLUB CHAMPION |

Not a good night for us I'm afraid.
The entry had a very strong first 5 cars for a Tyneside event, but we didn't need to win it to wrap up navigators champ'ship for John and possibly driver's for me.
On the way up the A1 for the start, the windscreen wipers managed to somehow get jammed and that in turn twisted the mounting on the driver's side. So after scrutineering, I took the driver's wiper arm off and re-aligned the other arm to give a central sweep across the screen.
Gordon Dundee (Clerk of Course) told us at the start that he was hoping to have us lose some time on a few sections and sure enough we dropped time on the very first section. We lost another minute a few sections later and also took several wrong slots - John was not having a great time with the navigation !
Not long after starting the 2nd time card, we were heading down off the moor tops towards Mickleton on a steep downhill scection. I braked for a 60 left and felt the car pull to the right. Steering left only managed to keep the car heading straight and we were not going to make the bend. So I stamped on the brakes as we slid towards a ditch with a stone wall on the far side. We stopped about 2" from the ditch. The car would not reverse so I jumped out to see the O/S front wheel completely outside the wheel arch facing right and the left wheel in it's correct position, but facing left !
The O/S control arm bolt had sheared off where it joins the strut, so the bottom of the strut was free to go wherever it wanted. Also, the driveshaft had pulled out from the hub c/v. The flexi brake pipe was the only thing keeping the wheel anywhere near the car !
So that was it. Fortunately (as we were Car 1) we were just far enough off the road for the following crews to squeeze past.
I called RAC and after 1 1/4 hours a tow truck arrived. After a fair bit of winching backwards and sideways, the car was secured ready for a tow home (front wheels lifted onto the tow truck).
John reckoned we were not far from Stevewag's house at the time, but we were not in a good mood to call in !
The truck dropped John off at his car in Darlington and took me and the Nova back home. Luckily the recovery guy was happy to reverse the Nova up my drive and into my garage, where it is now sitting for when I can be bothered to check to see what else has been damaged.
I think that with us starting the Weardale, John has secured the 2007 TMSG Navigator's Championship. But I have been overtaken in the driver's table by Steve Retchless (who finished 2nd on the event last night). We had not planned to do the TMSG championship, but after a few good results on scoring rounds we have ended up 1st Navigator & 2nd Driver (I think).
I will probably have a look at the car tomorrow - have been to watch the Robin Hood Stages today with Ryan. But it will be a miracle if it is ready for next weekend's Ryemoor Trophy road rally which we have already entered - so I will probably go along to marshal instead (might take Ryan along for the ride).
That's motorsport - some highs, some lows ! |
