it is quick because the engine cuts just one spark allowing a few milliseconds without power to allow the gearbox to change without a clutch. a syncro ring only moves about 15mm to change ratios

no... its my job.
Alfas do it quicker.... they only cut half a spark and change half a gear, so... therefore.. accelerate in half the time........

oh no.... i got it wrong.... Alfas have twin spark, sooo...... they cut two sparks, therefore change gear twice as fast, change two gears at a time and therefore accelerate twice as fast....
