Good pics. Gav and me spectated. First on Friday evening at Wauchope East which despite being a non spectator stage, was full of speccy's. Gav and me walked in through the finish and expected to see hardly anyone... however, we came across a few people, that turned out to be many more, and as we went further, came across even more spectators. Was a good atmosphere... proper night time stage. Watching the 'searchlights' of cars a long way off making their way towards us, then the sound of banging exhausts, sight of glowing brake discs and then the murmering of approving voices as the cars dissapeared back into the night.
From there, we went to Hotel Redesdale... a nice spot high up in the Redesdale forest at J.4 a 45 degree right. Beautiful clear sky, slight breeze, the good old fire pit and trusty BBQ burning away. Gav as usual drank the bar dry and we chatted round the fire while watching the odd headlights of marshals cars high up in the Ogre Hill stage across the valley.
Next morning, we got breakfast underway while media and spectators arrived at our spot. I went for a recce around our area of the stage and decided our best viewing was along a very long straight, over some bumps at high speed brfore a right left kink, Then into a double apex 90 left before a left right kink and after a shortr burst, a tight right. All this in view due to harvested forest land a length of stage of around a mile.
The first group of cars (lower class) really hit the bumps hard but no offs, whereas the faster cars (WRC etc) were so fast, that they basically skimmed over the jumps. was quite a contrast to the bumper banging antics of those before them. The 90 left hander claimed a few... if you werent holding a tight inside line hooking the ditch, you went wide on the second apex and fell into the outside ditch. This didn't result in anything serious, although a lost rear spoiler by Marcus Dodd and a few heavy bangs by others exiting the deep narrow ditch lost around 10 secs apiece. Only one car went off on the tight right and was beached on the ditch for about 3 mins. Returning to the car, we didnt see the last 5 cars along the fast straight bit, but apparently, one went off and activated RalliTrak.
From there, we went back to Wauchope which was now run in reverse and with a change of name. Now called Hindley, it was a glorious warm day in which we both headed into stage in T shirts and sweating cobs (whatever they are....? ). A good walk along the stage and some good views of the cars for long lengths. One spot we settled at, we could see the cars approach, pass, and then carry on up and down for much of the stage. A distant view of a dust trail looking like the tail end of a rocket running though the hills. We watched every last car through before a steady run home after another fabulous rally.
