Club night

Many thanks to all of those who turned up last night, never seen a turn out like it in a long time, attendances like that will change the clubs future I am sure.
joe_the_waiter

can you elaborate?  was it a good attendance or a bad one?
club sec

Do you know the only word in the English language with all the vowels in the correct order? If you do there is your answer.
joe_the_waiter

no i dont
joe_the_waiter

would someone like to enlighten me? .... or is it a secret?
club sec

I guess you had to be there.
steaallan

Club Night

Glad I went early to get a seat - had to wait ages at the bar!
Les Warriner

Yes we were both there! It looks like being a very interesting one next week!  See you there
club sec

This weeks club meeting will be on Tuesday 13th of October, there will be no meeting on Wednesday.
club sec

Tuesdays until further notice.
club sec

Last night was one of the most constructive meetings we have had for a long time.

Please note that we will soon be having an online vote to find out which night of the week is preferred for meetings. Wednesday is the traditional night but unless we are able to "up" our attendance figures on that day then the bowls club are unwilling to open for us as the costs outweigh the income.
club sec

The move to Tuesdays doesn't seem to be doing us any favours on the attendance front, does anyone have any ideas/ preferences to put forward?

At the present atendance we are probably going to have to go monthly instead of weekly.
joe_the_waiter

Why monthly?  if someone cant make it on one night.... thats a two month gap.
is it financially unviable to keep it weekly?
club sec

Wednesdays are not viable for the bowling club as the money we put over the bar doesn't cover the wages of the staff.

Tusedays, the club is already open and we just add a bit to the bar takings, but attendances since the change of night are down.

Monthly might just take the pressure off everyone to attend.

Fortnightly could be messy on 5 week months.
joe_the_waiter

so why not keep it Tuesdays where there is no financial pressure and perhaps the attendance will rise in future.
3 weeks on a new day isnt enough period for a trial. Most members wont even know its Tuesday yet.

If we have less meetings... that in my opinion will mean even less attendance. The club will slowely become insignificant.

Like any product, less availability leads to reduced sales and customers buy something else.   A business which is open less will lose its customers to their competitors who are more convenient

Maybe we should think more like a business and less like a religeous group with epectations of a full house every week.

Market research
product placement
brand awareness
Service availability

I go because i want to go. what can we do that will make people want to come??
club sec

Dave 15 years of all of the above has led us nowhere.
joe_the_waiter

The club is still running...   that to me is the important thing.

As i have said previous...  we are just gardians of the club for the current period. Lets keep it going for future generations to carry on. nearly 80 yrs ago... someone started it...  its not for us to stop it.

we have more to show than most clubs in the UK.
skodaman

Dave, i am very impressed with your tactful and positive speech on the
club nights issue. For once i don't need to ask you to be quiet!
I am with you on this issue. The mere fact we are meeting on a Tuesday
doesn't make a difference if you want to come to the club. Soon, the
majority of club members will get used to the idea and adjust their
social lives to suit. If you love your motorsport and want to be at the club,
you will make it.
As regards to monthly meets, we have discussed this many times and i am affraid that this would only dilute the communication and awareness
of members and would be a backward step. People know that if they head
for the club on a Tuesday evening there will be an attendance there.
If i can offer any alternative, try a Monday like most TMSG clubs. The
clash of nights would have zero effect on attendances as far as i'm
concerned.
