Croft Historic rally Feb 1st 2009Planning will be starting in the next few weeks, any help or input gladly received.
We are looking at a new format and more tests this coming year.

will be sitting this one out but I wish you the best of luck and hope you build on an already successful event.

I like the commitment, 8 months notice adn you have backed out already must be scared of the dark are you?

Just no interest in classics mate.

What about the best interests of the club, and isn't a flying bubble arched mark 1 more than a classic?

dont mind helping out with the odd task, but why not use last years team?

Er, because most of them are lacking in drive or tied up with the TOH.

it is now, have started the 2009 TOH meetings already and we were lucky enough to have Guy Wilks at our last meeting offering his views on how to make it a winner on the national scene. Not many rallies can say there are consulting a BRC champion (and potential SWRT Team B driver) for guidance to run a local event.

I wont mind helping out doing a few flashy promo vids and the like but who is the marketing guy for the CHR?
|
club sec

Marketing guy? How many people do you think are in the club? If you ask a question of who does what I'd say you have an 8 in 10 chance of it being me.

Just seen a thread on the BR Forum about possibility of The Shaw Trophy road rally being re-scheduled to Jan 31st / Feb 1st 2009. This will produce an event clash for some competitors & officials (including me & John).
I've put a reply on to inform about Croft Historic being on 1st Feb.
Think it might be worth someone contacting Whickham MC "officially" - Club Sec ??

BR Forum thread has confirmed the Shaw Trophy road rally for the night of Jan 31st / Feb 1st
Hope that doesn't drag too many people away from Croft on Sunday. Some people look like trying to do both events (Ali Proctor - but he is still young !).
The Shaw finishes in Morpeth, probably 6am ish, so in theory there is just enough time to get down to Croft (where is the start planned to be ?) and signed on / scrutineered & maybe even time for a power nap

Is someone going to start a Croft thread on the BR Forum for a bit of extra publicity (for new to the event entrants & species) ?
Steve Wag has done this in the past, but I will start it if needed.
Think we should include info on whether species are allowed at Croft and if so, how much is entrance charge. Plus what time first car arrives at Croft (presumably we only want species to go to Croft ?).
Also, for potential entrants, description of the surface of the 2 new test venues (is it one venue visited twice, or two separate venues ?) so they can choose suitable tyres for the event.
I am also pleased to report that El John should be back in UK by end of Jan so we are able to perform Clock Car duties (with Ryan's help as usual)
- see you all in 4 weeks.

Spectators are allowed, we will not be charging but llike last year the circuit owners may provide a bucket for donations to their nominated charity.
There will be a catering van on site doing bacon sandwiches/ burgers/ tea/ coffee etc.
No spectators at the start/ finish or the remote tests, Croft circuit is the only place we can manage people safely.
The cars will be going through Barton ford on one of the regularities.
Overall the tests are about 75% sealed tarmac, 25% of broken tarmac, farm track and loose surface. First car will be at Croft around 9.30am.
The outline is that cars start at the football ground, neutral to Croft then tests on the circuit, regularity, remote test, regularity, remote test, regularity, Croft, neutral, football club- finish.
Any queries the list of contacts is on www.crofthistoricrally.co.uk

CHR meeting tomorrow 8pm.
|
Road Rally Dave
|
CHR thread started on BR Forum (in Road Rally section).
|
Gav Taylor
|
so will croft circuit as a business entity not be charging speccys then?
If thats true then DDMC pulled the wool over everyones eyes when they said the £8 entrance fee was a standard fee charges by the circuit.
I see the entry list is only showing 11 entries...anymore to be processed guys?
min 25 in the regs isnt it?
I for one dont want to see an other of our events pulled due to numbers as I've experienced first hand the effort they take to put on.
|
club sec
|
16 as far as I know.
Yes they had your pants down at the Xmas stages charging you, though they may use that to offset the circuit hire costs.
|
Gav Taylor
|
missed a trick there then havent you? a fiver in could have helped offset our costs
|
club sec
|
It doesn't cost us as much due to the type of event, and we are not all about the money unlike some clubs I could name.
Our aim is 10% clear on each event, which I am sure you being a business graduate would admit is a reasonable result.
|
Gav Taylor
|
yeah definitely agree though i just thought with the exposure we had with the Guy Wilks night etc maybe we could have made at least some money back to be used elsewhere in the club.
anyway this ones nowt to do with me

But it could be........

not gonna jump in now like, you boys have done the graft.

did anyone see in the news that darlo football ground is having a stand or two knocking down to build a hotel. Any ideas when the work starts (because they have planning permision) or what the situation would be for future events?

aye I heard it mate, gonna bang all the polish students in there or build offices.
wont be for a good few months yet and its a stand that never gets used so I cant see any effect on the rally bro.

quite popular, apparently the Rally of Poland is the second oldest rally, after the Monte Carlo Rally, and its in the 2009 WRC calendar.
So i guess it has quite a good following

There is an Historic event in / around Berwick on Sunday so hopefully there will be another batch of entries next week from people who have finished Sunday's event intact.

Not sure on the status of marshals, there are 45 entries which is the most we have had in the 3 years of running the event.
|
Road Rally Dave
|
Website now showing 47 crews entered, plus on the BR Forum, Andy Beaumont reckons there is another on it's way
"i know of another entry sent in yesterday
andy & jake burns lotus sunbeam"
If you receive over 50 entries, are you going to offer the late entries a Reserve place to be taken if any of the first 50 pulls out before the start ?
What a nice problem to have (if it happens)

Right we are in to the last week before the event, all help welcome on the day.
Marshals please PM JTW or click the link from www.crofthistoricrally.co.uk
48 entries, 2 withdrawn, so in effect a full entry, not bad for a country in recession.
Mike and I would like to thank all those involved in the event in any capacity, lets hope for good weather and a good event.
Final meeting will be this Wednesday.
No spectators at the start/ finish only Croft circuit please, we cannot guarantee safety at the football club test.
Entry to the circuit is free although Croft circuit kindly request a donation to their chosen charity St Teresa's hospice, Darlington.
First car will be at Croft around 10.15, the cars will leave the circuit for 3 remote tests (no public access) and regularity but return for more tests and a lunch halt around 12.00 noon. This will hopefully give the public a chance to see the cars & competitors close up.
Official photographs of the event will be on www.srh-motorsport-photography.com shortly after the event. Simon Harrison is our chosen photographer and a good friend of Stockton & District Motor Club, please support him by purchasing a picture or two of the event.
The organisers wish you all a safe and pleasant day.

not a bad day.
Took a more mature gentleman from Ilkley MC up to the finish, drove all the Cliff Hall stage in anger...gets to the finish we both get out and he looks at me and says "thats not a standard engine then"

Quite enjoyed this morning, bit of craic with JTW and Bob Mack at signing on along the lines of Gaylor is a piss head and wont surface till after lunch
Monster butty & brew from the chuck wagon and a walk round noise/scruitineering checking out the cars
Marshalled/spectated on test 2 and was quite impressed with some of the crews commitment but also & unfortunatley witnessed the mini estate twatting the tree that hard e bent the roof amongst other things
Good event all in all and nice to see some old cars getting a ringing out

If i say i'll do something I'll stick to it. Today showed that. At the end of the day its me and you who are giving up our weekend so someone else can blast about in a rally car for a laugh.

Just a quick word of thanks from Dave Marsden and I for another competitive and very well run Croft Historic Rally. With the deteriorating weather forecast we took off early for the drive over the Pennines and were unable to express our thanks at the finish.
So, would you please pass on our thanks to all the team and especially your marshalls who endured seriously cold conditions with great good spirit - they gave is a great day out.
We took home a Cortine with a broken gear box. 1st gear went with a big bang with 3 tests to complete so we limped around (as quickly as we could!) to complete all the tests.
Best regards,
Mike Garstang
We had a great time learning how to use the handbrake. By the afternoon I had more or less worked out how to get the back out, and, by accident as it happens, how to get the front moving while holding the back wheels. And whilst I didn't manage to get the whole 360 I was getting the idea. Anyway, on one of the repeat tests we had 4+ minutes in the morning, and just over 2 mins in the afternoon, so something must have changed for the better.
many thanks and please pass them on to Martin too
Simon and Jacob
Bryan Smith & Ernest Calvert both really enjoyed the event. After test 2 Ernest's arms were dropping off and Bryan had a sore throat from shouting, they both expected and wanted to do that test again as the last test - as a sting in the tail! Ernest's only complaint was the amount of mud on some of the roads - it meant he'd have to clear under the car again!!!
