Durham dales September 6thHi Everyone,
Just to remind you all that the Durham Dales Classic Tests sponsored by Wilkinson Maintenance will take place on Sunday 6th September.
Since we issued the regs there have been a few changes to the event!
This year for the first time the Durham Dales Classic Tests will be run at a single venue, namely Streatlam near Barnard Castle.
This will be the venue for signing on, all tests, lunch and coffee. (The same quality cakes will however still reach us!) We will then retire to the nearby Jersey Farm Hotel for a carvery meal and the awards presentation.
This change has been necessary due to the loss of a number of venues over the last few weeks, which would make the road mileage unacceptable.
The upside is, firstly a central location, then the opportunity to watch others go first, plus approximately 18 tests, and finally no road miles therefore no need for additional insurance!
Entries are arriving steadily, although there are spaces for a few more competitors!
I have two drivers who are seeking navigators, so if you know someone who can help please get in touch. (As per D35 the minimum age for navigators is 12.)
Thank you to everyone who has offered to marshal I shall be contacting you separately with signing on information.
Finally, if you know someone who would be interested in the event please do forward my email.
I look forward to seeing you on the event,
Lindsay Burnip
Chairman Durham Auto Club Ltd
Chief Marshal

????
If you are implying this is "grass roots" then that is exactly what it is meant to be, a cheap, fun day of driving which allows all levels and ability of car and driver to compete at a very reasonable cost.
I am sorry there were no world rally cars there for you.

very true Dave, whilst it may be a awesome day for the driver on the durham dales watching some "old cars", a cats whisker away from standard trundle past bearly audible doesnt cut it for rally as a spectator sport does it really.

my quote was in response to your views of the WRC. I dont actually have a problem with grass roots. (except racing round a circuit under the banner of rallying).

They are called "single venues" and are used because they offer comparitively cheap entry fees for entry level rallying.
Most multi venue rallies have entry fees touching £400, add in to this tyres fuel, hotels, etc then you will see why they are popular.
Even to do the BTRDA level you'll be looking at £20K+ for a season not including the car.
Re the Durhams Dales, yes you can do it in a road car.

I dont mind single venue events..... as long as its not Croft Circuit... or similar...
its like having a marathon in a sports hall.... its just not cricket.

tut tut Dave, bring up old similies now!!
I for one dont mind the odd SV, its p1ss easy to watch at several different spots throughout the day, you can see the cars live and loud all day with minimal effort and they still sound and smell as good as they do in the forest.
Dont get me wrong I'm a forest man through and through, nothings beats the smell of frying bacon deep on a cold, crisp forest morning with the sun bursting through the trees and the sound of antilag echoing through the forest 5 mins before an S12 hammers past
Heaven.
