Grizedale Stages, Coniston 29th November (Nice GB warm up!!)

www.grizedalestages.co.uk

lovely event this in some really spectacular scenery, when I was here last year it snowed and it layed but it was worth the trip.

This years entry list see's an Audi Quattro S1 on it, a car which I have never seen nor heard in action so no better place for the christening than deep in the forest above lake coniston.

Anyone else marshalling / competing / speccying?

always a good turnout for this end of season toot

Sorry to spoil the dream Gav...  but i looked at entry list and was suspicious straight away.  engine size is 2144cc, the real S1 is 2110.  2144cc is capacity of WR engine (same engine in mine) and what was used in works cars till 1983.
so, i did a search of the guys name and found pic of the car.... sorry to dissapoint, but its a poor replica.   no idea how much power it has.. but i suppose it will sound nice in the forest, hopefully....

yes i sound like an anorak... but i dont wear one.......  just happens to be my specialist subject

I was sceptical as well, even posted a thread on the BR forum, as I thought if they're "legal" why havent I seen more up til now.

So it wont have "that" S1 sound then?

looks like it'll a rally show where its pi$$ed round a circuit at 30 mph when I see it.

A REAL S1 has a slightly different sound to the other 5cyl q's. also seems to rev higher and sounds 'Awesome'.
i guess tho, at least a poor replica on a rally is better than no q at all

well grizedale was a great event with nice weather for the time of year and plenty of action. As usual steve petch had a slight mishap and got stuck and had to be dragged out of a ditch just at SDMC's marshalling post i think our banner puts him of every time we had a couple of rolls (not sausage) i had to run from post 2 through to post six to sort out 300 spectators as the six marshalls there was struggling and couldnt keep them of the track and within 5-10 mins all specys were of the track and behaving themself while at six a escort comes along and does a great barrel roll and drops 25off the road any way rally was won by Mark Higgens and newest member of Stockton and district Mc running under our name Nicky Grist

Cracking day across in Grizedale on Saturday.  The weather was absolutely perfect up at High Cross for stages 2 and 6.  Here's a shot of the winners Mark Higgins and Nicky Grist.

Fully gallery on my website for those that are interested.

Cheers,

Simon.
