Lombard Endurance Rally

Who was over at Stang yesterday and how did it go ?

Should be up on Sunday morning with Ryan - hope it is dry.

Don't know too many of the competing crews this year - only really Mike's navigator, Ali, in Ross Butterworth's Mk1 Escort in the historics class. Just checked the current results and they are 3rd after having an off in Kielder yesterday.

See you all on Sunday.
steaallan

look forward to seeing you there dave how is john getting on and when is he back
Road Rally Dave

I think John has gone native ....

But he does say that he should be back to the UK at the end of December. Seems as though the contract will take a bit longer to complete than he thought.

See you tomorrow.
Gav Taylor

My mate Rob came third well pleased for him

Saw a few of the historics on the A66 today when we were on our way to take the Clio to it's new home

Enjoyed our little run out this morning - thought that the horizontal hail was a nice touch !

Had an incident free time at Junction 5 on first Stang test, although we did have to fill up Stock 1 with electricity when he ran out (good job there was plenty to spare in Mrs RRD's Astra).

I know that this type of event is not everyone's cup of tea, but most of the "top" crews are current / ex road rallyists, so it is interesting for me to see how the go. The cars may not look spectacular when compared to a WRC car, but I know that a lot of the drivers & navigators have the skills. Believe me, if you were in the car you would know they are flat out.

Drove through a real downpour on the way back down the A1, so even had a relatively clean car by the time we got home (a lot less brown)

Ryan has just looked at the photos - nice work Club Sec. Have you got one of the historic Alfa (Italian Job police car) cos Ryan reckoned he did the best power slide around our junction / chicane ?

I agree entirely dave with reference to the crews driving flat out, I'm sure everyone, me included would love to go out and play in a £350,000 WRC car but budgets do not allow this.

I also know that rallies are built for the crews not joe public spectator and to this end thats why I didnt help out /spectate as for me there was zero spectacle to be had.

lol just noticed this

hmmm no commitment to what? watching a bog standard micra drive through a forest at 30.

yeah yeah I know its the spirit of the rally and "like the good old days"

but the good old days and spirit dont have ALS, spit flames and cackle like the witch from wizard of oz when you come off the throttle.

case rested.

What rally cars are you watching ????

cant wait for WRGB...   Loeb scortching passed with a load of them flying monkeys following above. Followed by the munchkins driving BP Ford Focus's. Dorothy will be in a bright yellow Suzuki and Wilks & Higgy will be thrashing it out trying to stay on that yellow brick road.  all watched via virtual spectator from Rally HQ by the Wizard.

oh....   Good witch of the east ????   course closer i think

on sunday night....  we'll all click our heels (muddy boots) together murmuring....  "Theres no place like home.....   theres no place like home ............
Gav Taylor

Dave mate you really have to stop smoking that green man!

joe_the_waiter

Gav Taylor

can you not here the cackle like?

thats one of the main attractions of rallying for me, I'd love my V6 to cackle like that
Gav Taylor

and listen to that induction noise miles before you here it, true engineering excellance from a 2.0l like!
slippy

Have to agree with Gaylor, for me noise is one of the attractions of spectating

You forgot to mention waste gate chatter
Gav Taylor

oh and did I mention the wastegate chatter

sounds like a pixie girl having an orgasm..magical!
Gav Taylor

+ = 28 seconds in
club sec

28 seconds in, the average time Gav spends with a ladyfriend.
bob_mck

does that from the first words spoken to each other
Gav Taylor

I would love just to spend 28 nailling a split arse.

to be fair premature ejaculation isnt a male problem is it??
club sec

I have heard it affects 99% of men in Aycliffe.
stevewag

some good pics there ..had my camera there on thurs but no pics due to running the finish,,, good craic and the crews all seemed to enjoy themselves.

There used to be a multi venue event which did Hamsterley & Stang (plus others). I seem to remember it started in Bishop / West Auckland. Was that the old TOH ?
One of my workmates used to service for Jimmy Dent who was a regular top 10 man in a 1600 Sunbeam & then a 2600 Chevette back in the day. He was a good guy but had a very nasty accident at Witton Castle stage & didn't compete again as a result of what happened to his navigator.

Gav Taylor
