Riponian Stages 2009 ****CANCELLED****

Just put in entry in for the RIPONIAN so any advice appreciated

And don't bin it is not advice
club sec

Check your overall are up to scratch, or just turn up at the club where lots of people will give you their opinion on how to drive a rally car.
joe_the_waiter

maybe i'm not qualified to give advice... but i would say its important to treat it as a good shakedown and keep reminding yourself that... Its more important to finish a few places down than is possible and get important miles under your belt than go for broke and bin it.  Remember it is a shakedown for your crew as well as the car.
  Good Luck.

by the way,,  sorry i havent had time to submit a design for your car, been busy with CHR... although i have a nice design in my head
slippy

As long as Gaylor doesn;t give me his 2p worth

Both suit and helmet are ok though my helmet only has 12 month left  though by then I will in the WRC so probably getting stuff for nowt

I will be making sure all confirms though I am a bit unsure about the window film craic

just remember our first season development strategy Slip son.

that extra blip could cost 1000's.

treat the event as a good shakedown on a surface you're not really used to.

Bring the car home, download the geom data and tweak from there.

Gavo "Richards" Gaylor
slippy

Wise words Gaylor
joe_the_waiter

Think that Steve Wag has done this event several times, so he is best placed to advise on the "tricky" sections e.g. the jumps next to the roller coaster at Lightwater Valley (if they still go there) and basically all of the trees  and / or ditches in the forestry bits.

Hope you have a good run.
slippy

Cheers Dave

They are not using Light Water Valley this year so pure forest action    as previously discussed the aim is to keep the mist at bay and get a finish

Never going to happen
club sec

Well if you manage to hit a rollercoaster you have really gone astray.
slippy

Would have like to have done it just for the craic though I suspect compared to the proper forest stages it would have been a bit Mickey Mouse
joe_the_waiter

nothing micky mouse about the lightwater valley stage....  fast, very tight, mixed between gravel and tarmac and claims many cars. great place to watch. you get just a few centimetres offline, there are big kerbs, walls or drops waiting for you. Last year there was two cars in two seperate places that ripped suspension right off.
joe_the_waiter

heres in car vid from last year (slightly shorter stage than used other years)

  http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk40H_Z9x94
slippy

Nice one JTW I am just watching the other vids from the event and it's giving the horn
slippy

The car is nearlly ready for the even just a few last niggley bits to sort and the list is done

joe_the_waiter

like putting wheels on it
slippy

Shit forgot about them

Only issue left to sort is not starting when warm ??? had a mooch round on the 205 forum and seems a common issues but not really found a solution if you have any ideas JTW
club sec

Most likely fuel vaporisation, try and insulate the inlet manifold and fuel pipes from exhaust heat.
slippy

Reet who's gannin up to watch the Riponian

Anyone
club sec

Iwas contemplating.............a weekend off.
slippy

As in a non motorsport weekend
club sec

Yes.
slippy

No such thing in the colorful world that is Slippy land
club sec

Well I suppose I could start prepping the pug for the season ahead.
slippy

That's motorsport related though
Simon

I'll be braving the forests for the Riponian.  Probably go and see the cars through Roppa morning and afternoon.

You never know, there might be some of the snow left if it stays cold enough!

Simon.
club sec

Quite possible up there.
Gav Taylor

I'll be there with the air horn rooting for our Slip so dont bin it Rossi style big lad
Gav Taylor

where do you reckon you'll be seeded like bro?
slippy

Good man just dont wear that hat will you
club sec

Standing in Roppa waiting for Slippy's in car camera with a big abusive banner.
slippy

What reading something like

"WE DO YOUR MISSUS"

club sec

I was thinking "Slippy is gay" but we could go for "do you know what your lass is doing whilst you are reading this"?
Gav Taylor

Gav Taylor

I'm going off to s**g my bird in a huff.
slippy

A couple of pictures from Wass forest  [:s] the pictures don't really do the depth of the snow in places justice

Funbobby

No Snow is a blow

Looks class - no snow in the Hog Slip   - hopefully tonight well be knee deep ! Sledgetastic.
Gav Taylor

Just a quick point but when "since records began" did snow last for 2 weeks in any part of the UK bar the mountain tops.

slippy

Pipe down Gaylor, as and when you become a competitor I will listen to your homosexual ramblings until then stick to wearing road kill on your bonce
Gav Taylor

so you still think you'll have snow next week aye?
slippy

Don't know mate I hope not but it was pretty deep and it's not going to warm up to much at that height
slippy

Howay then balls out of handbags who is making an apearance

Snow is slowley going from the tops so I reckon as long as we don't have anymore we should be reet

Any tips to keep us out of the tree's Steve

Apologies for no show tonight at the club meet I finished football and went down to the workshop to test drive the 'finished' car only to find we have a pretty major petrol leak from the tank that I suspect may have been due to some welding we did on the floor pan

Tank is coming out tomorrow so we can assess what is required though I suspect a new tank is the order of the day

make sure your left foot braking is up to scratch and front tyres are going to be key.
(yes.... i know my name isnt Steve)
joe_the_waiter

i would also add... safe slow line into the corner, make your time up on the exits.
Gav Taylor

dont forget Slip, this is a man who has more rallies under his belt than you and me have had hot dinners
joe_the_waiter

Gav Taylor

I'm just pulling ya leg man dave.

fred astaire hasnt got a look has he mate!

any joy with those things bro?
slippy

Negative should have them Saturday

Just hope they dont cancel because of the weather
Gav Taylor

aye I know mate, we were all sent home from work at half 2 today like.

think the score is a bit of a freeze tonight to turn it into sheet ice, a touch more snow then a thaw from tomorrow so its got 2 days to get fettled.

I hope so too cos I've vetoed any V-Day plans to cheer you on son!

even bought a new gas canister for my air horn
slippy

V Day plans    you mean your going to knock one out Sunday morning instead of Saturday

The snow up on the tops is differnt gravy to down here as it was only just starting to fook off then it's dumped it's load again today, I'm not fussed about the weather just don't fancy tip toeing through the stages as it kind of defeats the object of competing for me.

Think we will wait fior the official verdict from Ripon MC and I will mosey up Friday night/Sat morning for a butchers
joe_the_waiter

AWESOME.......  P Solberg leads Rally Norway after SS1

i know its only SS1..  but hey...   how fabulous..  wish i was there
Gav Taylor

Dave I checked return flights to oslo with ryanair £50 return, car between 3 or 4 £30 each cheap BB or hostel £40 petrol £20 between 3 or 4

yet another epic WRC round  in a Scandic country we could have done for sub £200....and the women!!!!

I proved it could be done going to Sweden

we probably spent more on WRC GB

Spain 09 oh yeah !!!
joe_the_waiter

bit late telling me now

I'm seeing a smoggy lass now as it happens for my sins

exactly...not really a test of skill if all your doing is tootling through trying not to slide off. save yaself £400 and drive to tesco's in pickering instead.

I too hope its down to the gravel like, I need a proper rally fix, crofts OK but its the ALS echoing round the forest and the smell of pine in the early morning when your doing ya bacon sarnies that really does it for me.
Gav Taylor

joe_the_waiter wrote:

tis true just a heads up for the next couple of years before the green crew succeeds in taxing the cheap airlines again

Amen brother Gaylor, not sure what the craic is if you pull your entry after the entry has closed as all it says in the regs is at the organisers discretion
joe_the_waiter

i'd love to do a rally on snow. love the stuff, love driving on it, so much fun.
slippy

All well and good slip sliding around car parks etc but twazzing between tree's etc is a different ball game
Gav Taylor

dave go to sweden, its much like gravel in terms of driving technique.

if the snow was brown you would think it was gravel.

the only real ice driviing we saw was the Hagfors superspecial which was pure ice

bear in mind in sweden its been -20C for months and the snow is powder we have this shitty slushy wet stuff stuff which is very slippy over there its almost a dry surface
