S2000 for the World Rally Championship in 2010 YES or NO?in these uncertain times it looks like a good call to keep the sport alive allbeit at the expense of spectacle and noise
you do you think?
I hope it goes round robin when the economy picks up again and we see a swing back to more loutish cars in a few years.
in a word its ok to get us through this reccession nothing more.

Instead of asking questions like this you could do something useful.
Like write an article for the Oily rag.

you have to sample the local dishes when you're in a different country to be fair.
would of liked to have sampled some other local delicacies but they wasn't many about.

1400cc WRC - perfect - make the cars noisy they will be fun to watch cheaper to run and only use 8 -10 tyres an event........
Less fuel less technology - how about Loeb in a C2 1400 and Hirvonen in a Fiesta....

ford are going to use a fiesta for the new S2000 spec in 2010 I am told.
an M Sport engineer told me they wanted to base the current WRC car on a fiesta but fords marketing dept stopped that happening

Steve, your mad on 1400's.... i bet yopur road car is bigger than 1400cc.
i like S2000. they make a lot of noise and at least sound like they are revving. With a bolt on turbo kit.... i'm sure they will sound the part. In all reality... S2000 wont be slow. 300bhp will be easy to achieve... the main changes are to the body, suspension and braking systems. I am in favour of cutting costs as that could be what kills the sport.
When you watch a national rally.... the WRC cars look very quick as your seeing a direct comparison with group N stuff basically. When we watch a WRC event with S2000, they will all be on par and therefore wont look slow or boring. On Sweet lamb on WRGB, The WRC cars were tip toeing (apart from Ogier who was banzai...) in comparison to Sandell for example in the Pug who was obviously pushing the car hard and was at least reaching 8000 rpm.
The speed will all be relative.... so on the day, wont be an issue. Loeb, Hirv and whoever will definately drive the cars to the max and therefore will still look exciting (and noisey)

I never agreed with WRC when that was launched and don't agree with S2000 either. If you take a look back, group A prompted the build of some of the best road cars ever, and in the process created the closest competition and most manufacurer invovement ever !!!! If they wanted to re-create close, low cost competition, then they should work on group N spec with free exhausts and limited tyres.
