Road Rally Dave

Nice one.

Have the carbs been set up properly ? Might be worth checking to get the max out of it.
slippy

It's coming 1600 trim so will be carbless
slippy

The car has to be rollling roaded and then sealed prior to regisrtation so i'll get any tuning issues sorted then but the guy who builds them reckons the motor is, and I quote, "a little honey"
stevewag

Can think of a mint forest rally to do in it!

Steve
slippy

Hmmm which event could that be ??
Gav Taylor

good skills mate looks a little beaut!

whens / whats its debut event?
slippy

Probably the JF me thinks
Gav Taylor

whoop whoop
sparky2i

hope we can count on your support mr taylor
Gav Taylor

for sure boys i'll give you a hand on the day even its just standing about looking cool

failling that I'll just come over and steal a bit of your coffee and talk to you making lots of up & down left and right hand gestures so the passer by thinks I'm some sort of set up expert  geek
slippy

But your not a Smoggie

Looking cool is my job and Funbob has got the pretending to be an expert thing down already, that leaves you with window licker, sorry, cleaner duties
Gav Taylor

I shall take my 10 years of rally expertise somewhere else then like SWRT or help out Adapta Norway for 09

Good day to you.
slippy

Best of luck Gavin 'Tea boy' Talyor
Gav Taylor

I'm also a dab hand at arranging biscuits as well...a true and complete all rounder son.
slippy

Jammie Dodgers of Jaffa Cakes for me and Sparky2i eats Ginger biscuits as apparently the stopping him puking but it didn't work very well on the Pendragon
sparky2i

joe_the_waiter

slippy

club sec

Gav there is a 106 rallye for 2500 in MN this week, good little starter car.
slippy

Save your breath sec Gaylor is all talk and no walk
Gav Taylor

ha nice one son!

dunno if I'll have a job in 6 months time to be fair!
slippy

If that's true then sorry to hear that

Might look at hiring my 205 for SV's if you would be interested though I suspect there is probably a lot more to it
Gav Taylor

nowt certain bro just the way the company is going and when you work in the finance dept you get to see just how skint the company is.

we've already laid off lads at all our sites and even shut our factory in Port talbot until march, keeping on just a skeleton staff.

testing times big lad testing times.
joe_the_waiter

sounds good....   based on the hire charge of a mondeo worth about £14 000 from avis being about £60 per day....  i will hire your Pug for about £30 for use on the Cheviot. If you guys service it... i'll give you all a fiver and a pork pie each and if i do well...  buy you all a pint next time i see you in a pub.

i'm just off to check out ebay to find a rally suit..........
Gav Taylor

have you looked into insurance? That'll be where the cost is.

What if someone bins it do they just hand the keys back, say sorry mate and shoot off home?
slippy

I hear you mate I would need to look into further, I would only hire to those I trusted to not bend then not mend
Gav Taylor

thats everyone from this forum off the list then
slippy

Speaking of testing

Just booked the 4th on Jan at PARKWOOD 4x4 CENTRE for some gravel testing/our kid and my dads christmas present

Cracking little mile/mile and half loop with a few jump, quick bends, hairpins and a water splash and I have negoitiated rather a tidy price for 10.00am-2.00pm

Couple of pics from last year with my mates Lombard Micra

Gav Taylor

pukka mate, is it on gravel now like?
slippy

Half and half mate
Gav Taylor

half and half? you been out in that smog again son!
slippy

Some rounds are tarmac some gravel
Gav Taylor

so you have a tarmac and a gravel set up do you?  d a p p e r !
slippy

Err sort of

Ride height and tyres is about all you can change
Gav Taylor

tut tut cutting corners thought you had gravel suspension and seperate tarmac suspension.

I thought you were cool man....
slippy

Challenge does not allow such luxuries mate Billies, guards are standard no messing
Gav Taylor

level playing field and all that.

can imagine some twat turning up with a 40 foot artic to service from and having a team of 15 servicing for him.
slippy

That the ethos mate but time will tell
Gav Taylor

good word that isnt it "ethos"

will make a point of dropping it in a conversation or email tomorrow at work!

ethos

nice.
slippy

sparky2i

why does that not suprise me that you would go pinching other peoples words to drop them in your conversations
Gav Taylor

better than theiving cars like you smoggy c**ts
sparky2i

you got that wrong again    you lot thieve them we strip them
Gav Taylor

deal!!
slippy

No need for the C word to enter the thread Gavin
Gav Taylor

sorry Vicar, I've sinned so i haaave.
slippy

Drove the car for the first time tonight and it's errr... different to the Clio
Gav Taylor

faster, slower; firmer, wallowier; tighter, looser......
slippy

If the Clio was an Italian Lofer then the Pug is more of a hiking boot
Gav Taylor

what raw power and grunt rather than a fat free all show no go greasy motha fu<ker?
slippy

Not really

The Clio was a quick car mate the Pug is more of torquey Gravel car if that makes sense, it feels bomb proof (shouldn't have said that) where is you'd have driven the CLio on Gravel you would have been left sitting on your set hold the wheel with the wind blowing through your hair
Gav Taylor

thats what you want man, solid through and through and a work horse. nee point bits falling off after the odd knock and bang here and there.

So no more being plagued by that driveshaft prob when cutting corners either then!

ideal for the zero on the TOH 09
slippy

Aye I have already made my services available

The Clio was a just get in and drive type of car in that it felt predominantly like a road car where as the Pug is going to take some getting used to,

No PAS
Currently on gravel Tyres
Quick Shift box
Billies currently set up for gravel so about what feeels like a 1ft high
Brakes desperately need bleeding

I think it just needs a bit of tweaking and then when I get it on gravel hopefully it will come alive and all make sense

I hope
Gav Taylor

is that an allegiance to gravel events rather than tarmac is it?
slippy

Halfey halfs like I said before but at the moment there is no link bar connected, no strut brace, no tarmac stickeys and the ride height is about 12ft
Gav Taylor

= big air in the forest and a half page pic in MN!

campus hero
club sec

It was the same when I drove the 106 for the first time, it was and still is completely different to any road car I have ever driven.
Road Rally Dave

slippy wrote:

Gravel tyres do "move" about on tarmac, especially if tread not worn very much & you will feel it more with no PAS.

It is a different "feel" from road tyres / treaded slicks.

You will get used to it.
slippy

Cheers chaps lets hope she comes alive on the rough stuff
slippy

Well the car did not disapoint, bar a few teething trouble and a nick in the rear brake line which unfortuantely ended the day a little bit early I can honsetly say the car goes, handles and stops far better than I expected it to

Couple of pics from the day

Big thank you to Funbob and Sparky2i for there assistance, Bring on the challenge
Gav Taylor

cracking mate you gonna sticker it up like cant leave it plain orange!
slippy

She'll be stickered up mate no worries, might get a local airtist to do a headshot of Gaylor on the bonnet
Gav Taylor

ha quality mate! You'll certainly get some inquisitive birds coming over in the service park like.

whos the sponsors like?
slippy

De Fleet Services the lad who lends us his van for servicing/towing etc, oh and bolts the car back together FOC when I bend it
Gav Taylor

good mates to have captain!!
slippy

To right mate we have been very fortunate he even lets us use his work shop if we are doing anything major which helps massively
Gav Taylor

nectar!
Road Rally Dave

What is your first event planned for the 205 - will it be a championship round ?
slippy

Not sure quite fancy a crack at the Riponian but will have to see what January's pay brings as it aint cheap, the Challenge has a test day scheduled at Sweet Lamb which should be good as we get tuition thrown

Not that I need like

Today was god craic and was a good oppurtunity to see what needs addressing prior to a 'proper' event
Gav Taylor

long way to go for a test that isnt it?
slippy

It's a chance to rip round Sweet Lamb, get tuition and all for circa £150

That sir will do me
Gav Taylor

suppose you wont need to get a 3.5 ton mobile home towed back from there either!!
slippy

Lets hope not mate

Cant wait now I can tell you
Gav Taylor

get stuck in lad and dont follow Hirvo's line
slippy

Hirvo doesn't dare take Slippy's line son
Gav Taylor

that sounds like like a short lived outing for the old girl before a rebuild
slippy

This year is going to see a new more mature Slippy behind the wheel treating the car and enviroment around him with more respect

As a wise man once said to finish first you first you have to finish
Gav Taylor

you'll be chaining yourself to trees next captain.

I would use this first season as a warm up.

similar to getting into a hot bath, then next season when the water is over ya balls so to speak you can go for it.
slippy

That is the plan mate and I WILL be doing my best to stick to it
Gav Taylor

until the adrenaline kicks in on a long straight
slippy

Thats exactly what I need to avoid mate, what's the point of driving on the limit when I don't have to I can look at other peoples times and drive accordingly
Gav Taylor

tactics mate, some would frown on it but as you say to finish first, first you must finish.

DNF's dont score you points esp in a new car that your still breaking in
slippy

Don't get me wrong mate I will still be trying but I will not be going bonkers like I have in the past
Gav Taylor

f**king hell mate, slippy 30 going on 50
slippy

Just winding you up mate I'm going to grab it by the bollocks and kick it's fucking head in from the word go
Gav Taylor

can take the man out of Teesside.....

enjoy mate..simple as bro
slippy

Sounds like a deal, especially with some tuition on gravel.
slippy

Another selling point of the Challenge
club sec

2009 another year on the sidelines for Taylor
slippy

Certainly looks that way the tranny
club sec

I know and with so many bargain cars around at the mo too there is no excuse, and just think of the money saved by not going to Ireland that could be diverted into a little project.
slippy

Gav Taylor

just a bit of employment uncertainty. I no I no excuses excuses

In an ideal world I would get made rundundamt and walk into a new job straight after, using my pay off to fund a blast in the 205 champo and show slippy up.
club sec

Grow some will you Gaylor, I work for GM you don't get closer to the brink than that............except Woolworths
slippy

Yeh Gaylor strap on a pair sonny
Gav Taylor
