Support Gav Taylor

Our very own Gavin Taylor has taken the brave and some might say admirable decision to quit the dirty habit that is smoking and channel his energy and new found finances into his life long dream and love, stage rallying

I am sure all the SDMC club and forum members will join me in wishing Gavin well with this venture and offer him as much support and guidance as possible to help him along his way.

I for one will backing Gavin all the way and wish him the best for the future

yeah something like that would be ideal, cheap parts as well!

budget to start with would be prob sub 2k for the car and I've budgeted around £500 for overalls and the like. no point spending too much on my first rally car as it probably get binned anyway, first corner, first stage

so thats around £2.5k

my 20 a day habit costs me £1825 a year so thats a deficit of £675 to find (easy) then I can go rallying and not be out of breath at the top of every staircase
slippy

Tha XR2 would be idal I reckon mate if you need a traler for cllection of said vehicle wnhen you do purchase then give me a shout

As for a your overalls budget, I got my 3 layer Sprint 5 Sparco jobbie for £73 off the bay and my helmet was about £100 but don't forget you need to do your BARS test and you will also need an intercom.
Gav Taylor

sweet mate,

doesnt seem to be many overalls on the bay when I looked

Gav Taylor

slippy

Check you out you will be going to church on Sundays next

A small loan might be in order
Gav Taylor

do you have the numbers of any boro loan sharks like?
slippy

A few   or you could always try the ham shank

Buy THIS and join Smogsport
Gav Taylor

what with your French connection like mate?
slippy

Nothng mate just those ex Cup Cars represent serous VFM in my opinion the 6 speed SADEV sequential box is about 6k alone

Where else could you get a factory built car with 200 BHP, sequential box, big discs, Hi spec 4 pots plus LSD for sub 10k ?
Gav Taylor

do you run a sequential do you?
slippy

Nope and I don't have an LSD or 200bhp either but hey ho

The newer Cup cars do though
Gav Taylor

I would invest in an LSD mate, you'd shave gallons off your stage times on twisty little fighters!

10k for that spec is as you say amazing value for money

through the gears....

nnrrrr,nnrrrrrr,nnrrrrrrrrrr,nnnrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  MINT!!
slippy

Flat shift as well I think

Looked at an LSD but being realistic I have only done four rallies and finished one so not exactly at the point of needing to shave seconds off just yet
club sec

No major advantage of an LSD on asphalt, just makes it harder to drive.
slippy

That's a bold statement mate care to add anymore ???
Gav Taylor

club sec wrote:

what???

cant agree with that like, and I have a degree in engineering, and my brother has a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and he says a LSD does work

The main advantage of a limited slip differential is shown by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely—the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, and thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use, such as driving in mud, off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the angular velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
club sec

Advantage gained in traction is lost in driveability an LSD is more prone to understeer
Gav Taylor

You're the one competing mate, not me

Does the 106 have an LSD?
club sec

No, and they aren't allowed in a lot of championships so choose carefuly.

Have an idea what you want to do an buy a correctly specced car..........just like I didn't!
Gav Taylor

engine and 4 wheels to start with, I'm hardly in a position to be considering diffs and the like at this point!!
slippy

Any update on said venture yet Gavin
Gav Taylor

sill formulating projections on available capital mate
club sec

I stil think you ought to get some basic rallying under your belt before jumping in.

I would suggest doing 3 or 4 12 cars (min) an all night road event or two then move on to stage. Why? It will teach you about timing and how to "cut and run" when needed.
slippy

That's a nav's department though it might not hurt to do a bit of co-driving like

Pushing the pedals and thinking your a hero is the easy bit
sparky2i

well it is if your not slippy as he pushes just that little to hard every now and then and you end up in a bog in the middle of nowhere with next to no signal on your phone
slippy

When was that like
