Teesside Autodrome Stages Rally 4th may 2009

Whickham & District Motor Club Ltd are pleased to announce that in an attempt to help competitors with cheaper events, we are to hold the Autodrome Stages at Teeside Autodrome on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May. The event will be a National B all tarmac format, similar to Three Sisters, of approx 24mls for 40 crews. It is hoped we might attract new crews to their first Stage Rally. Costs will be kept to a minimum.
Further details will be announced as they become finalised & Regs will be available from the website nearer the time.
I know it is a few months yet but one to put in your diaries
It is anticipated that we will attract a full entry & anyone wanting to register their interest in the interim can forward their email address to
autostages09-rally@yahoo.com
Organisers will come from Cheviot & Border Counties Teams.

Cheeky feckers coming in to our patch! Stil do it though!
Gav Taylor

surprised you didnt know about it?

nows a good time to bolster our banners around the circuit

and not the .com ones!!
Gav Taylor

just realised this a week before our TOH  angry7

different type of entrant tho I would think.
joe_the_waiter

Teesside autodrome stages rally?????

surely it would resemble a sprint?
club sec

Excellent.
slippy

Bitter sweet for me

Nice to see a local venue being used but I would say it's a shade on the small side for a proper event, will see what the entry fee is
club sec

You know you'll be doing it.
slippy

Yeh probably

Ideal venue for Gaylor to make his debut
club sec

Gaylor and rallying debut do not compute
Gav Taylor

if i find a pot of gold on the way home from the pub tonite I'll be there.
joe_the_waiter

maybe if you didnt go to the pub in the first place might be a help. quite simply......  total annual alcohol expenditure might be a significant amount of a rally budget
slippy

He obviously doesn't want it bad enough JTW
club sec

Aye , no passion for the sport.

I bet he's a prawn sandwich munching man U fan.

very true £30 tonight, £30 tomora and maybe a few bottles of vino during the week so thats about £75 a week

75 * 52 = 3.9K a year

shocking.

but fun.
club sec

Mmm, that would buy a 205 alright, eh mr Slip?
slippy

Indeed it would buy a nice Challenge car Mr Sec

Maybe it's not the money he's bothered maybe it's the fact that he might get shown up as been a tugger
club sec

I think the term is "timewaster"
Gav Taylor

yeah right. live the dream boys x

slippy

Gav Taylor

slippy

Or out else for that matter
Gav Taylor

maybe half an hour with ya bird like
slippy

Ok mate as long as you dont want to lend the Pug that's fine
Gav Taylor

ha is that you rating your 205 higher than the bread knife is it?
slippy

Yup

I can get in my Pug and abuse it any time I like with no wining, dining or DIY'ing, Mr S is a different kettle of fish
Gav Taylor

does the pug have a set of bangers though?
slippy

True

They are both loves of my life, both cost me a fortune and both fustrate the life out of me
Gav Taylor

very true mate I'm now single and dont have a rally car.

your observational skills are quite simply awesome Dave
slippy

Those skills would make JTW ideal co driver material
joe_the_waiter

well apart from the fact i have no interest in being a co driver,.....   quite simply... if it was with Gav... i would be waiting a very long time to see the start line.

i too would like to be a driver, but dont have the money (i just dont earn enough)... but,  while its not possible.. i put my energy into organising and marshaling.... even servicing
slippy

It aint cheap like mate we are toying with the idea of doing the Riponian but just totted up what it's goig to cost and it's near enugh £700 by the time we have paid the entry, tax, insurance, fuel etc etc
club sec

#359 taken from the Gavin Taylor book "1001 reasons why I don't do motorsport"

Do what we all did, start at the bottom and work up, 12 cars, autotests, PCT's, get some experience along the way.

My first event was a road rally, What about slipster? Sally's was an autotest, Skodaman karting, no one jumps into stage events.
slippy

Began doing 12 cars and night events in a 5 dr Bell End Burgundy 1400 astra which I paid £370 for and £40 for for my licence

Then bought a GTE (The White Lightning) which I then sold on for more than I paid for it

So as the learned secretary states there is no excuse really and road rallies are good craic if ridicolously tiring, I once was so tired doing the Westmoreland I was halucinating    I was weaving down the road when my nav asked why I was going side to side and I answered "To avoid all the rabbits" to which he replied "what f**** rabbits"
club sec

I know how that feels, I fell asleep as the wards were handed out on the Costa, propped up on a bar stool.
slippy

TBH it was one of things that put me off but 12 cars are about as cheap as it gets to be fair and normally done and dusted by about 1 am
club sec

So to conclude, you don't need pots of cash to compete in motorsport, but it does help.
joe_the_waiter

your quite right about 12 cars etc, but my car is really unsuited to doing events like that in any competitive form. I wanted to enter my old Audi Coupe in a 12 car many years ago with S&DMC, but was told i couldnt as it had more than 4 forward facing lights. If i had a different vehicle at the time.. i would of started years ago.
i know many of you will now go on about how my Frontera would be ok for a 12 car...  but it would be like entering London Marathon wearing a bear suit......  might be fun for some, but is not competitive and not practical
club sec

#128 My car is not suitable.
slippy

A reliale RR car wouldn't cost the earth mate, bar we putting a hole in a farmers fence that Bell End Astra was the most reliable 'competition' car I have ever owned

Off to search eBay for RR cars for JTW and Gaylor
club sec

Gaylor's Vectra would do the job.
slippy

V6's allowed ?
slippy

PROJECT

I'll even lend you my tailer to collect it

if I had the gear to fettle it I would look into it mate.
Gav Taylor

slippy

It's the year of the Ox that's why

You obviously an enthusiast Gaylor so it's time to step up mate even if it's just a project, a 12 car banger, an eBay special that needs a bit of tlc or even a Kart whatever it is you need a petrol injection so go for it

scared of proper rallying or what big lad??
club sec

Er, I frankly don't know how you dare "Mr I won't even have a go at at a 12 car".
Gav Taylor

**rattled**

I'll expect nothing less than a podium then peacock with your experience of that circuit.
club sec

You can bust your competitive chery at the autosolo on Sunday, then I would hold your comments in marginally less contempt.

i would but A: my handbrake cable is still snapped 7 B: i was in that carpark on monday afternoon eating fish & chips with my bird and its got some canny bumps in it like!!
skodaman

Funny, my 1971 Triumph managed okay last time and finished 5th overall. Never used the handbrake once either!
club sec

Despite a lack of communication by the host club, I am reliably informed this event is on and I am in it.
joe_the_waiter

I think lack of communication is becoming a big problem now and i think we should really have an AGM with a major discussion point being the future of the club and how we run it. I think this should take place soon after ToH. (this isnt the first time i've called for this). We are singing from the same hymn sheets... but we are singing different verses
