WHAT'S ON ???

Had a thought about starting a whats on thread so we can all find out about upcoming events like stage rallies, autgrass, circuit racing etc so once your subscribed to the thread you will get notification of a new event being posted as oppose to the current way of putting up a new post that people will potentially miss.

Good idea or not ???

I'll start anyway KEITH KNOX/CHEVIOT STAGES UP ON OTTERBURN, 19th OF OCTOBER
club sec

Well when JTW gets the .co.uk website redirected to our old site then there would be no need.

www.stocktonmotorclub.co.uk  does go to the club website.....  has done for last couple of weeks.

however, once in, you cant navigate around.  The links all need changing to the actual URL's.  Ive been in to try and do it, but cant make sense of how it works. All i can get is the website how it looks...... how do i get to edit the HTML ??

In the mean time, i'll continue with developing the new site, but dont expect much this side of Christmas.

Martin,  you need to change the links (example...from "stocktonmotorclub.com/whatson.htm"  .....  to.....   "whatson.htm"  ) do this with all links on all pages and we have website back and working
joe_the_waiter

I am going to create a web page that will say our website is encountering difficulties. It will also link all visitors to the forum as a point of contact

The forum should reflect this. Lately the topics posted arent really related to the club and in fact would put off most visitors from wanting to be part of our club.  As we are trying to win club of the year, i wonder what our chances are when those judging, view our forum as part of their desicion making process.  I think we should be considering these things from now on

f**k off teacher I built this forum myself, these are my people!

I choose stockton over Darlo and northallerton which are much closer!

and i'll tell you why...when I was at uni in 2005 back in my final year I emailled all three clubs asking how I could start rallying, got just one email back from a certain Martin Peacock, not one from the other clubs.

from that day on I was SDMC til I die!!!
Gav Taylor

and I'd like to think I've added some value to the club by building this forum which didnt exist before i joined, my marketing and profiling work for the TOH and getting slippy on board, a proper rally driver who now enters events through our name.

were going places guys lets not stop now.
slippy

To add, one of the reasons I joined the SMDC was because of the craic/banter on said forum though I can appreciate where JTW is coming from

That said it dpends what you want I suppose, a PC forum where everyone is nice to each other and nobody make lude comments or a forum where a small roup of like minded individuals have  a good laugh

I know which I prefer
Gav Taylor

ha ha exactly mate.

if you check out other clubs forums you'll find that the ones that are all prim and proper usually dont have many posts and lay unreplied to weeks/months.

makes the club look like no ones about (in an online capacity)
joe_the_waiter

Im not saying it should be a prim and proper forum, just a bit of thought regarding visitors and new members.  Yes you built the forum, but it is under the Stockton Motor Club banner. surely it must reflect the standing of the club and not portray a bad image.
everyone may disagree with me.... but it is a forum...  so i'm having my opinion
Gav Taylor

can feel a ban coming on

I think the best way to go about this is to have an announcements page where official messages can be read, also if you log out and click on the join page I have put T&C's that expressly absolve SDMC of any official responsibilty for whats posted on here, to to covers it arse.

As for the forum I hope that this forum can be integrated onto the main site so its not 2 separate sites, having spoken to JTW he assures me he will be able to do it with no problems.

Surely all you need to be a stage rally driver is a stage rally license.........like mine
Gav Taylor

wasnt knocking you mate either, but your poison is more sprinting isnt it?
club sec

Yes, but it appears all the wannabees in the club would like me to fulfil their stage rally fantasies.

Sprinting suits me because sally gets to drive as well, there aren't many other disciplines which allow people to share a car.

Sprint your road car, it's a good starter sport.
Gav Taylor

me vectra struggles on bloody roundabouts son.

who's the wannabes like?
club sec

Er, you and JTW for a start.
Gav Taylor

I'm a wannabe awesome. with due respect one does aspire higher than a 106.
slippy

But one currenty has an old Vectra

I've just bumped the support Gav Taylor thread BTW

Which is exactly my point, there's no point in constantly going on about it, if you aren't interested in starting at the bottom, gaining some results and solid finishes (slippy) before progressing, then I am sorry but you are in for a shock.

Slippy has got the idea now, go for a one make series, budgets are kept reasonable and progression to the next level(s) follows. You aren't going to step into a Subaru or Evo and if a 106 isn't good enough, well I'll wait and see.

I do recall seeing a Mr C McRae in VAUXHALL NOVA 1.3  a while back and a Mr R Burns in a 1.6 TALBOT SUNBEAM too.
Gav Taylor

fair points lads.

to be fair your road car isnt your rally car tho!

That's my dad, cheers mate
club sec

???

My road car isn't my rally car, but it could be used as such.

I suppose if I wanted a "better" competition car I wouldn't have spent so much on a nice road car.

You're making excuses, it's like another night at the motorclub wth all the other Marlon Brando's giving it "I could have been a contender"!

All in jest anyway, I'm just a bit wired following 170 miles at 5000rpm in a noisy (and cold) rally car.

Errr... you mean 'sprint  car'.
club sec

It's what ever I need it to be as it is MSA homologated as a Group N/ enduro rally car , it can also be raced, road rallied, autotested, autosolo'd and hillclimbed (to name but a few)

Told you the other night 5.5k and it's yours.

It's not put me off but then again nothing much puts me off anything!

I know what you mean - my club has had similar dilemas which have been discussed at our committee meetings with our members openly and behind scenes as a committee and we came to the conclusion that our membership was continually growing and that no one yet had complained about anyone's conduct on the forum and in fact we felt it had brought in more members as a result of looking like a friendly, open relatively normal bunch and also if anyone had a problem with what was posted on the forum they could and had the means to report certain people, threads etc and if they didn't then we were ok.  Luckily we don't have to moderate our forum very much and it is almost self-moderating.

I know exactly what you mean with regards to coming over as a 'professional outfit' etc - may be it's something that should be discussed further but as far as I see things in a new forum users eyes there's nowt like a bit of craic to keep things good.

have to agree with there time for taylor to put up or shut, just reading some of posts from last night are quite frankly rude and embarrassing...thats what an afetrnoon session and then coming home and thinking "right I'm already pissed whats the best thing to do after 9 pints...ah yes pop a bottle of vino open"    w r o n g move amigo !!!

I therefore believe an sober apology is due to all.

Listen to the people Mr Brownridge

I believe everyone who uses the forum including the guests we so often see have no problem getting the information they need, especially for event info and the like. Its normally the first 3 or 4 posts that have all the official info within them.

If we start introducing a forum Gestapo all the banter will be gone.
joe_the_waiter

apology didnt last long.....   you opened another bottle.....???
Gav Taylor

I have cracked a beer open as it happens but then I have been to work so therefore believe if a man wants a beer after a shift, he can have one old boy.
