Wales Rally GB 2007

The recruitment process for WRGB is now underway.
anyone interested in marshalling for this event who need info, let me know. Anyone who wants advice on obtaining a msa rally marshal licence (required to marshal on WRGB), let me know and I can advise on the process.

The 2007 WRGB is held 30th nov - 2nd dec. (shakedown 29th nov) & is the events 75th anniversary (debatable).

Camper van?? what's wrong with the car?

I used to have a camper van... but I still slept in the Subaru on rallies..

I have slept in cars on rallies for nearly 20 yrs... can't beat it. Gavin.... as for sleeping in car on Dukeries.. just turn up, park up & sleep. The best thing about being there night before is you can pick ur spot.

Surely the GB means Great Britain, which I do believe comprises more than 1 country?

I agree with you Martin totally, but its not so easy to boycott the event as its our only round of WRC (except now Ireland which would cost more) and I wouldn't like to miss it.

I bet you could do Ireland as cheap as Wales, and the Craic's better!

the main cost with WRGB is fuel. Ireland would be similar if not more, plus the cost of carrying the car across the water. I did consider doing both, but think that will be too expensive.

Having been lucky enough to see the last Group B RAC RALLY and the highly competiitive early group A years I am sorry to say the WRC leaves me a bit cold.

Hire car!!.... Sacre bleu !!!... doing a rally without the frontera......? how can u even suggest it?

besides... a hire car for £100.?...... doing the Irish WRC rally in a rented 1.0L corsa is just not the done thing... but covering my Frontera with mud on WRGB... now we're talking (even tho it pains me that its in Wales).

from speccys point of view Rally GB is a rip off £90 for a the WRC pass whereas Ireland will be free.

Fair enough Rally GB is free if you intend to marshal on it (quick Q: - do you get into other stages for free after your stage is over?) but to johhny ordinary who is down for a p1ss up (me) rather the safety of the worlds best rally drivers one cant help but find Ireland an attractive option, if nothing else for the 1st ever WRC novelty "I was there" factor.

I agree Gavin, things are different as a spectator. I would never pay £90 to watch WRGB, I used to find the free ways in... now tho, its almost impossible. (hence why I marshal).

No Gavin, as a marshal, we don't get free entry to other stages (or even cheaper), piss take aint it!. but I prob wouldn't be spectating anyway.

How do you get in Gavin? do u pay or do you have ways?

Previously Ive just bent over and paid the £90 quid, saves the hassle but I hear a few good men sucessfully enter at strategic points and are able to watch for free. There are a few scare mongering stories floating about the rally forums currently most predomintly that the organisers have paid "locals" to secure various points where potential freeloaders can enter the forest away from the main access routes but I cant believe that.

I would do the whole enter and walk a few miles then camp ray Mears style another few miles from the stage for nowt (and infact would enjoy the whole experience being the minimalist camper i am dave re. JCR!) then enjoy the rallt free, but for the following reasons

1. I would have park my car on a random country lane giving it an abandoned look
2. Walk a considerable distance to the stage making the trek back too long to get to another stage that day (repeating same "free" format)
3. see 2.

the organisers really do pay people to block entrances into stage... I have seen and met them. that's why I have now given up, its like colditz these days (and they're in position the afternoon before). I can give u a few hints tho when we meet nevt time.

Right I've been doing my sums and it looks like the only way I can justify going to GB is if there's "something to play for" if the championship has been decided pre event I'm gonna sack it off and put the pennies in my Karlstad brothel jar.

does anyone know when the new scooby is getting its first outing? please say its before monte!
