Jesus just reading the blog about that scarf getting trapped he should thank his lucky stars he's alive quite franky, if that was caught up at full speed, well doesn't bear thinking about.
Also noticed that both teams had exactly the same FL? is that correct?

Terrible joke.
I heard about it through a forum I frequent. One of scarf face's teammates is a member on there. _________________ Alex |

looking at the results... our position is surrounded by teams with fastest laps faster than ours, which i guess means our run was at least more consistant with a Kart which in my opinion couldnt go as fast as the opposition. |
Did you see our kart??!! - wasn't like all the other hires - ours was twin tanked too so refueling took an earth (also fuel only lasted 1hr30 to 45 - especially when the fuel cap went walkies and was found in the hand of the chap refueling the kart behind Our kart was an afterthought - last minute inclusion - call it a favour - so if you think your kart wasn't good then you were welcome to ours - ours was an old daddy compared to the other hires I inspected!
We sent our best man out on qualifying and first stint - the rest of us were averaging 1:22s to 1:26s at best so that's why it went pearshaped but we finished ahead of my club team 'Clubcento' which shut them up and that's all that mattered to me and also did better than previous years so for a last minute formed team (formed on Thursday of last week!) whose members didn't know each other or have any stragegy I dont' think we did too bad
Next year I want team 6 - with max stints of, say, 1hr30 in order to avoid wasting time with driver changes/refueling
Remember I'm not that great or fast - tis all good fun |

Hi,
May I ask a few questions about the 24 hour race as I know you guys have been doing it for a few years now & I know you race at Teesside alot. This was our first year & we thoroughly enjoyed our experience & hope to be back next year! What I was wondering was how much difference is there from one hire kart to another? We spent Friday learning the track so were naturally rather slow so didn’t really get the opportunity to assess whether the kart was decent or not. However during the race, it was clear that most of the hire karts were just leaving us standing on the straights. Like most arrive & drive circuits, is it just luck of the draw whether you get a good kart or not?
I would also like to apologise to the driver of your 88 kart who came over the hill of turn 4 to find me facing in the wrong direction & thank him for braking hard enough to make the impact minimal.
Regards
David Sullivan |

We think a lot of the hires were tinkered with because ours (88) was only running at the normal pace of our ironmen races.
Certainly the Americans ( aggressive but not that fast) were messing around with theirs a lot and we heard them talking about tyre pressures. We suspect that some dodgy fuel was in use as you could smell it when following karts down the straights. |

It's fair to say that the hire karts still vary in pace, although the karts
provided for the 24hr race with the centrally mounted fuel tanks seem
to be in better shape and turn in better for corners than normal hire
karts. Speed down the straights seems to be a common gripe with these
karts but i can explain that after years of driving these it mostly boils
down to how much speed you can carry out of the corners!! Being vey
smooth and feeding in the power will minimise the deficit.
On another note, David, you must have looked at the iron man
championship, why not give it a go on October 25th? You will probably
enjoy it more as it is hire karts only and the drivers are more closely
matched! |

Cool pics - That was Ant - in both pics as far as I can tell in the 2nd - he was our star driver
Dont be criticising my lovely pit board - myself and Helen made that with our own fair hands on Fri night - I never missed it once and it was cool at night cos we attached a head torch directed onto it - it's a square no plate and reflected a treat on night stints - it was last year I missed our pit lolly pop stick lol - this was much improvement - I mean my skills dont' run to LEDs and light boxes like some folk...... |

light boxes??? nah.. just LED's with some clever design ideas.
as far as lollipops.... funny story...
i was waiting for our driver in the pits and chatting to Bob Mck (our team member). while i was chatting, i looked round and a kart was stopped near me and the driver staring...... i had the lollipop lazily leaning over with the 'STOP' side facing the kart driver.... he thought i was stopping him... lol
dont know how long he had been stopped there, but i waved him on and wondered why he had stopped at someone elses lollipop. was funny at the time. |
