T minus 1 day.
First leg 2733 mile trip from east coast to west coast of Canada, via Winnepeg.
First leg by car for 1500 miles, second on "The Canadian" sleeper train for 3 days, winding our way through the Rockies, rumoured to be the best train journey in the World.
After that its another 3 weeks in a hire car driving down the west coast of the USA on Highway 101 from seattle to san fran then cutting across to Las Vegas for a week to relax then Grand Canyon down to Phoenix then looping back to LA for a few days before the 13 hour flight over to Auckland, NZ where its a fortnight over there before a 6 week tour of Australia then onto Thailand...beats aycliffe anyway _________________

If we get our acts together,
Club Sec can win Speed Championship
I can win Road Rally Championship
JTW can patent his own rally siren (only for use in Argentina)
Steve Wag & Derek can organise WRC event
all of the above whilst driving Vectras
and Gav will be non the wiser cos he is on holiday and will miss it all. |

Yes, we had a great day actually. Sorry that we were not helping out - it was an early enough start for us just to make it to Hamsterley in time to watch ! (I did volunteer to help in Stang but JTW had efficiently already filled all the necessary spaces).
As spectators we were very well treated with good easy viewing spots at start of SS1, hairpin in SS2 a few metres away and 2 junctions in SS4 & 5. After seeing the full field 3 times (not bad over 5 stages) we headed home from Stang and got home in time for tea !
We even had the added fun of driving from Service to Stang with Car 1 following right behind (trying ) to keep up with us - although I couldn't keep up with Charlie Taylor Car 11 who was in front of us.
Well done to all who did help to make the event happen.
John got a 10th place on Saturday night's 061 Rally - he had a better excuse than me for not "working" with you all on Sunday. |

Quality Dave
SMDC will truely be a superclub if that happened, no stage rally championship winners tho?
Made it to Toronto, place I'm staying has free wireless internet so sat in bed 3500 miles away at 7.20am in the morning surfing the forum.
If that isnt sad bas**rd material then what is?
Niagaria Falls in morning then we set off on out 1500 mile road rally as we head to the west coast of Canada, namely Vancouver not looking forward to paying the 45p a litre like
more updates and hopefully some pics soon _________________

Morning guys, I hope the wireless connection on our campsite is a bit more stable this morning so I can actually post this, this time. As I write its just past 10am and the sun is shining
Were about a 1000 miles into our trans Canadian road rally. Left Toronto to go to Niagra falls a few days ago, Toronto was a bit administrative, wouldn’t really recommend going there for anything other than a flight in or out.
Niagra falls is ok for a couple of hours and is very impressive but soon gets boring after a while, you can tell the town of Niagra is suffering from the recession with lots of shut down shops & diners etc.
The road trip is awesome, as are the roads I would liken it to the A68 only on a much grander and much much longer scale. One section yesterday we drove 100km through the forest (which is basically what this road cuts through all the way) and didn’t pass one car or building! A much as I would like to blast it all the way the Canadian police actually do there jobs over here and police the TransCan highway so you cant really boot it as they could be round the next corner. As a marker we normally see 3 to 4 police cars who’ve pulled people a day on the “17” (the transcan)
Wildlife…yesterday we saw along the way a black bear (surprisingly shy, it ran off when we pulled up to take a pic), a couple of moose (ugly bloody things) a wolf which was standing by the side of the road looking very noble, rather impressive.
Weather generally sunny but I think we have underestimated the climate up here as we go over the mountains, its still getting down to minus 4 or 5 during the night with a few snow showers here and there, the locals say they “having trouble shaking off winter”. Quite. Still our gear we got from Go Outdoors in Portrack lane is holding up well out here high in the Canadian Mountains I just hope it holds out for a few more countries and continents yet.
Full tank of fuel for our bad boy Nissan versa 2.3 auto…dapper (!) is a eye watering £20 GBP.
Nothing much else to report for now as its mostly blasting through a forest on the same road for 1,500 miles until we reach Winnipeg to board our sleeper train for the journey through the Rocky mountains for 3 days, looking forward to that I must say.
Hopefully a few pics below is the connection will let me.
SDMC til I die!!!
Over & out from some desolate campsite deep in the Candian mountain forests.

Gav, great update. greatly anticipated.
if you are using your laptop... you should keep up to date with a diary and then just cut and paste into forum (or start a blog) when you have a connection.
